Week of January 7th

Hello everyone!!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed spending time with your family and friends during the holidays! I have missed your kiddos so much and I cannot wait to hear about the fun things they have done the past two weeks!

IMPORTANT JANUARY DATES

MONDAY, JANUARY 20TH — MLK SCHOOL HOLIDAY

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29TH — HALF DAY (PLC)

Champ assemblies will begin this week! They will be every Friday morning at 8:00 in the cafeteria! Champ assemblies will be over different characteristics that students show show in school like cooperation, pride, respect. This week assembly will be over kindness!

Parents are welcome to come to each assembly, however it is not required.

Assemblies typically last 20-30 min.

I will let you know ahead of time the date that our class will be on stage!

The second semester of 1st grade is more challenging because our expectations are higher for our kiddos. We are going to dive right back in this week!! REPORT CARDS WILL COME HOME THURSDAY! If you have any questions just let me know!

Spelling – into, has, her, more – ABC order on spelling test – Spelling test Friday

Phonics – long and short vowels – We have worked on this already so it should be a refresher for your kiddos. This week we will be applying what we have learned more in depth. At home you can work on this with your kiddos by pointing at things around the house. When you say the word, does the vowel say its name (long) or does the vowel say its sound (short)?

Reading – This week we are going over what it looks like and sounds like at stations. This week your child might only come home with a book once. Next week we will try to be on a more regular schedule. We will be focusing on fluency and how to use context clues to quickly figure out words and/or phrases.

Writing – this will be a refresh week! During interactive writing students will fill in parts of words/sentences that are missing. This will encourage them to apply and look for the parts of words/sentences that they know should be included such as punctuation, capitalization, finger spaces, missing words, missing vowels, etc.

Math – missing addends – We will introduce this by playing games such as bears in the cave. For example: I will show students 8 bears, then I will cover some of them (the bears go in the cave), now they see 3 bears, how many are in the cave? 8 – ___ = 3 is the SAME thing as 3 + ___ = 8. The blank in the middle is the missing addend that they will be solving for. Assessment Friday

Social Studies – New Years Resolutions – we will define the word resolution and discuss what it means. Then we will make resolutions for our classroom and for ourselves.

I know this is A LOT of information! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime through the Remind app! I can’t wait to see your kiddos tomorrow! 😀
